Essential Question:

How do vaccines contribute to a healthy nation and help prevent the spreading of disease outbreaks?

Why did you select this as your essential question?

I selected my essential question because it can be used to make points on topics in the vaccine debates. It can also be used to bring up population differences between first and third world countries. The question allows me to express many opinions on vaccinations, while also bringing statistics of American vaccine use as well as in other countries. I have a interest in the science behind vaccines and the statistics on their usage. The chemical makeup is interesting, but the growth of health as a direct correlation to the usage of vaccines is important for others to see as well. My essential question will allow me to explore the vaccine usage towards health and the growth of a population involving the spread of diseases.

What excites you most about finding the answer to this essential question?

What excites me most about the answer to my essential question would be the information and statistics. I am excited to explore the research found by doctors and scientists on vaccine usage in America as well as other countries. As Americans, we are constantly obsessed with healthy lifestyles, yet some feel the need to deny vaccines. With the denial of vaccines comes the spread of disease to others. Unprotected babies are more exposed to the risk of of illness, so that can cause a population decrease. I will finally be able to dig deeper into the theories and statistics of population growth in connection to the rate of deaths due to vaccine rejections.

Do you feel this question accurately reflects a desire/need you have to find out more about this topic?

I feel this is a topic I have a huge interest in. Vaccines have always been a topic I wanted to study more deeply. The idea of something so small being able to prevent something so big - such as a disease outbreak- has always been hard to wrap my brain around. This question is a bit open ended, and can be interpreted in different ways. I'll be able to look more deeply into the science of it, as well as the distinct difference vaccines make on the population. This can help me get answers to all perspectives of the vaccine debates. Each side is different, so researching multiple perspectives will overall give me a deeper look into the topic and statistics of it all.
